Foxy Warning
Description
Much of my pyrography is large pieces of complex structure in a photo realistic style that take a long time to create. I really enjoy doing this and some very wonderful images result. Whilst I've been broadcasting pyrography quite a few people have expressed interested in having a pyrograph piece of their own but unfortunately the larger complex images are outside of their price range.
The main factor is the time taken in the pyrography with the larger pieces taking tens of hours of work. But to make something of equal quality but more affordable means being able to work within time limits. This is in itself an interesting artistic challenge and this project was born.
Inspired by a viewer that likes foxes, this was a self-challenge to complete an artwork within one stream. Based upon a door hanger, this lets you tell potential visitors if you are awake or sleeping. Limiting myself to one hour per side was fun because I still wanted to represent the nice hair texture that can be produced with pyrography and that can be seen in my other cat images.
I am still learning to work within time limits and it is fun to do, a series of trees was next in this project.
Size
This is a wooden door hanger 3.5" * 9.5" * 0.1" ( 8.9cm * 24.1cm * 0.25cm) made from Birch plywood. There is no wood finish applied.
Time
It took exactly two hours to complete this, one hour per side.
Salute to Sunset
Description
Inspired by the suggestion from a fellow streamer to pyrograph an elephant the pose that I chose to create was strongly reminiscent of holding up a hand to say goodbye. The elephant appears to be saluting the last of the sunlight as it dips below the horizon and the long shadows begin to crawl across the African savannah.
Of course being a savannah I really wanted to have some other animals in the picture and the giraffe was fun to do. Interestingly the trees in the background were the very first pyrograph trees that I ever created and this lead to a small series of other pyrographed trees.
Size
The wood panel is made from birch plywood 29.7cm x 21cm x 0.3cm (11.7" x 8.3" x 1/8"), there is no wood finish applied.
Time
Over 30 hours of work went into completing this image.
Felix
Description
Felix is a rescue cat that has been with us since a kitten. Not a particularly cuddly or knee cat he absolutely hates to be held or restricted and will complain quite loudly to anyone that will listen.
Soft fine fur that is a very deep brown, so much so that it looks black until you see him together with Junior who is a true black.
Rarely will Felix make a stream appearance, when he does most likely he actually wants my chair.
Size
The wood plaque is made from birch plywood 17.6cm x 12.7cm x 0.3cm (7" x 5" x 1/8"), there is no wood finish applied.
Time
Approximately 10 hours of work immortalised Felix.
Junior
Description
Junior is a true black and white cat who’s early life was feral. Over a couple of years he gradually become tame until he moved in and became the model for this piece.
A beautiful fur like texture has been created using the pyrographic tool giving an unusual but appropriate look. This was a technique that I had just discovered on an earlier piece when I was trying to create very fine lines using the edge of a shader tool.
From time to time Junior will take an interest and make a guest appearance on a broadcast usually to the delight of the viewers.
Size
The wood plaque is made from birch plywood 17.6cm x 12.7cm x 0.3cm (7" x 5" x 1/8"), there is no wood finish applied.
Time
About 10 hours of work captured Junior’s likeness.
